More regional airports allows the traveller greater choice

For a long time holidaymakers from the north of England and the midlands have usually used Manchester airport if they were travelling abroad due to the lack of alternatives and greater choice of destinations. Whilst Manchester airport still has a higher volume of travellers going through its terminals there is no doubt that the other airports are catching up fast.

Manchester airport is growing its overall share of the Northern market has shrunk with East Midlands airport for instance growing at a greater rate. There is little doubt that travellers would rather to use their local airport and as a constant traveller from all these airports my first choice would be East Midlands followed by Birmingham then Manchester with Leeds a distant fourth due to its poor location.

Although if you are flying from Manchester airport and due to timings you may want to consider using Manchester airport hotels an alternative which is more pricey. But I must admit I do enjoy it, generally though I have found that East Midlands airport car parks and parking at Birmingham airport to be usually less expensive than parking at Manchester airport. On top of cheaper airport parking, less travelling costs. Overall it just seems a lot less stressful experience.

There are really only 2 things that would make me choose Manchester airport over either East Midlands or Birmingham airport. One would be the timing of the flight back, not keen on getting back late in the day or at night which means you spent the majority of your last day hanging around, which makes for a long day with a drive home after your flight. The second reason would be if the flight was considerably cheaper.
