We are going to Maui and want to see Molokai. Will we need a car there for a few hours?

cattledog asked:

We have been to Maui before but never Molokai… we aren’t really tour people; we like to explore on our own… is the ferry landing adjoined to a town? or within walking distance of a beach good for snorkeling?

Could we rent bicycles at the landing? or a car if we have to?

Anyone who knows I really appreciate this.
Amazingly, I can’t find any of this info in a guide book or a internet site (so maybe all of my questions can’t be answered with a yes…lol)

If I were going, I’d rent a car. Walking limits how much you can see. If you are going to the leper colony, there is additional transportation to be arranged.

If all you want is a beach and snorkeling, go to Molokini, it’s the extinct volcano between Maui and Molokai.
