There is only one ferry from Maui a day to the island of Molokai. Snorkeling is not an option. It is an amazing island. You will see things on Molokai that you will not see anywhere else on earth. You will not need to get “blasted” on an “all you can drink tour”…besides, they do not exist anymore.

the water and fish and views are the same from any boat. really. we loved the snorkeling there and near Kona best. virtually every guide boat we saw will loan you gear. no problem there…they have great stuff to use. they also all seem to feed you snacks. no worries on which one you pick– they are selling the same great thing when it comes down to it.
we did a jungle hike. it was way cool and far better than expected. didn’t really know that before we tried it. will do it again!

No idea about the first part of your question, but if you’re going more than a few times, it’s best to get your own mask, so that you can be sure it fits well and is clean. I never rely on those you hire, or those that are free in dive boats.
The Cressi Focus is a good one for snorkelling.
