Moloka’i is much more secluded. There are nice little houses to rent or you could stay at a hotel. The beaches are less crowded, but there is much less to do. I would recommend Moloka’i if all you want is a quiet, secluded place to relax. Most of the people on Moloka’i are locals, so you’ll be in the minority with your tourist clothes and camera around your neck. However, if you want a more traditional Hawaiian vacation, Kauai is the better island. Much more things to do, more places to stay, more tourist-oriented activities. Maui is similar to Kauai in that aspect.

I was on Moloka’i many years ago as a teenager, I know there wasn’t much to do as far as touristy activities but if you are looking for a simple relaxing time then Moloka’i would be fine. My kids’ and I are on Kauai for the Summer and there is more to do here than on Moloka’i, but Kauai is still much quieter and more laid back than Oahu and Maui…we’re enjoying our time here, you may too. My suggestion is Kauai over Moloka’i~~Aloha~~

I would advise Kauai for most people. Molokai is very small & while the scenery is beautiful, as others have said, there is very little to do there. Kauai is a good mix of scenery, & incredible outdoor activities like zodiac boat trips up the Na Pali coast & ziplining, but still has the amenities of good restaurants, decent shopping & a movie theater in case you hit a rainy patch.

I went to Molokai a few years ago, when Molokai Ranch was still in business. It is the most secluded island with the most Hawaiian spirit. Everybody who wants to vacation in Hawaii skip over Molokai for some reason. If you want to go back to old Hawaii, this is the island. It’s so different than Kauai in every way imaginable.
An acquantance of mine, his grandma lives on Molakai and there is only one streetlight. That’s how “old” the island is. Personally I loved it!
I say Molokai. Be different.
Here’s the tourist site:

I wish I’d knew with those two islands; I’ve only been to Oahu and Big. My stepsister was married on Kauai.

OAHU.
The best island.
AND the most advanced.
Plus its where I live and I’ve been to most islands, oahu has the most to do.
